Community empowerment through sustainable household-yard utilization is an important strategy to improve local food security and family welfare. A community service program on economic empowerment through the Sustainable Food House Area (Kawasan Rumah Pangan Lestari, KRPL) concept was conducted in Yowong Village, West Arso District, Keerom Regency, Papua, Indonesia, on 21 July 2026. The program aimed to enhance community knowledge and understanding of optimal household-yard management to support family food availability, encourage behavioral change, and promote sustainable food production. The activity applied an educational approach through lectures and discussions, with program effectiveness evaluated using pre-test and post-test assessments. The results indicated significant improvements in participants’ knowledge of household-yard utilization, increasing from 25% to 90%, and knowledge of suitable plant species, increasing from 20% to 85%. Furthermore, 95% of participants showed motivation to cultivate plants in their yards, while all participants expressed willingness to implement the knowledge gained. The program achieved a success rate of 90%, exceeding the target of ≥80%. Despite limitations related to implementation duration, lack of practical field activities, and limited follow-up support, the program demonstrated the effectiveness of community-based education in strengthening knowledge, motivation, and capacity for sustainable household-yard management. This initiative contributed to promoting family food self-sufficiency and improving community welfare in Yowong Village.
