Writing literacy and the ability to utilize Artificial Intelligence (AI) are increasingly important for students in developing ideas and expressing them systematically. However, students at Darul Istiqomah Islamic Boarding School in Manado had limited understanding of the use of AI as a supporting tool in the writing process. This community service activity aimed to provide assistance in book writing using AI by introducing basic writing techniques and the use of effective prompts to develop writing ideas. The activity involved 34 Madrasah Aliyah students and was conducted on August 12–13, 2026, through a participatory approach consisting of lectures, demonstrations, direct practice, discussions, and mentoring. Evaluation was conducted by comparing participants’ understanding before and after the training, particularly regarding the use of prompts to provide instructions to AI in developing writing ideas. The results showed an increase in participants’ understanding from 0% before the training to approximately 80% after the activity. This improvement indicates that AI-based writing assistance can provide an initial foundation for developing students’ writing and AI literacy. However, the activity had not yet reached the stage of independently producing complete book manuscripts. Therefore, continued mentoring is needed to guide students from idea development and outlining to manuscript writing, editing, information verification, and responsible use of AI. The activity demonstrates the potential of AI as a supporting tool in the book-writing process while maintaining students’ creativity, critical thinking, and responsibility for their work.
